The default categories mentioned in the post below have landed me in a spot of trouble. Specifically, I was wondering whether you could see in in you heart to remove the 's' at the end of 'Current Affairs', since my girlfriend has voiced some objections against it.

I suppose most guys would be worried when their girlfriend starts sending them links and stuff from this website. But not me. Nope. Uh-uh.
On the other hand, wouldn't it be cool to include their valuable info on airport carousels (whether they go clockwise or counterclockwise) on the map?
On a related note, I wondered how to classify this post and other girlfriend related issues using the categories supplied by TypePad and decided to go with 'Current Affairs'.

Comedian Eddie Izzard is to star as a fairy in a new film version of a children's classic.

Eddie is, of course, absolutely brilliant. If you haven't heard his impression of God (using James Mason's voice) you've missed a lot. However, the picture accompanying the story is just frightening. Truly. Yikes.

Hmmm... maybe...

This AI post below got me thinking. The things are really falling into place, and it's not as farfetched as it was just a couple of years ago to make AI based intelligent helpers. Consider this for a minute; we have web services APIs all over the place, we have voice servers and automatic speech recognition which is really getting quite good (we use this stuff for our services, so I know it's true) and we have all kinds of knowledge and experience re. adaptive learning systems. Processing power is becoming dirt cheap and networking is now a snap thanks to W-LAN.

I came across a couple of interesting things today. The first is from Wired, where Marvin 'AI' Minsky is lamenting the comatose state of AI research:

The second shows that people ARE actually working on this. One of the people behind it taught Helga at University of Pittsburgh.

You know, this is a really fun thing to play around with, and man, I'm tired, just typing in the places I've been to. And to avoid pockmarks on the map, I only list the more interesting places. All the countries are covered, though. I think.

10th most popular blogging language?

Iceland, population just under 300,000 people (and no, it's not a typo) and sole user of the icelandic language, manages to rank 10th in languages used to blog? Uh... how did that happen?
Interesting statistics on that site though, and the popularity lists look plausible.
